It seems to be getting more and more difficult to discuss getting a stable job without hearing the woeful tales of some man or woman who has lost their job or simply cannot find one.
While the government does have a previous form of a safety net in place for the unemployed to survive in his recent budget address, President Obama has detailed a new safety net for the potentially unemployed. These new plans are specifically designed to help those who have lost their jobs and have had to take lower paying jobs, as well as those who have lost their jobs due to being replaced by technology. This new plan is suggested to potentially be able to help the middle class through financially trying times and assist the unemployed in finding economic stability faster.
The White House has stated the following on their wage supplement plan: "Displaced workers making less than $50,000 who were with their prior employer for at least three years would be able to leverage these resources to help them get back on their feet and on the way to new careers." Some Americans feel it is not the government's place to help the unemployed due to the free market, capitalistic nature of our society.
This is while some believe that an economic stimulus, such as this, is not only the moral duty of humanity but is a safe and effective economic move. Others also believe these wage supplements could ease the burden of the evolving trade market, which is gradually replacing human jobs with jobs that can be done by machines.
However, with all of this said, this kind of plan is not one that is passed so easily in the United States. It will be voted on later in the year.
