Although there are numerous laws and acts that have been put in place to allow students the right over their academia in college, there's one thing that the universities couldn't pass up – parents weekend. Ahh parents. The ones we miss seeing each time we opened that front door. The ones who yelled at us for using our cell phones at the dinner table. The ones who nagged us to 'do more' in our classes and get away from the television. The ones who wouldn't let you out of the house unless we gave them the place we were going to, how long we planned on being there, and the social security numbers of each person you would be with. But as much as they got on our backs, we missed them dearly. So to show them how thankful we are for them to come to our college and check in, here's a few things to do to prepare you for their arrival and time staying...

1. Clean your room.

We all know it's gonna be the first place your parents go when they enter your house or dorm.

2. Wipe down your bathroom.

Dad's probably gonna have to use it after mom white gloves it.

3. Remove the alcohol and drug paraphernalia from plain sight.

No, it's not decor in their eyes, it's alcoholism.

4. Be sure to lock all of you technological devices.

They can't pass up a chance to see the specifics of how 'great' all of your courses are going.

5. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wear what you would to the bars or frat parties out to a nice dinner with your parents.

Cover it up, Mama and Papa Bear don't need to see that, show them the serious student and adult that you can be.

6. Go through talking points and off limit stories with your roomies/best friends they will be meeting.

Let's be honest, you want to stay in school, right?

7. Be prepared for childhood stories that you never wanted to be relayed onto someone not by blood.

It may be their job to embarrass us, but it's our jobs to deflect from the end of story reactions.

8. Just try and remember, parents weekend is just that, a weekend.

It'll be over before you know it and soon you'll be back to missing the heck out of them while having a messy room.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
