Every college student around the world are now packing for the upcoming holiday. As they prepare for this week, early plans are being made to leave campus for a bit and reconnect with loved ones. The time has come to take a break from homework and see family and friends.

With Thanksgiving approaching, there are a few things that everyone should be thankful for. As for me, I am thankful for my life, health and strength. When I overlook my life and the people that have come in and out, I am grateful. Friendships are rare for me, as I am a person that looks for the kind of character a person portrays to be a good fit for my life. I’m happy for every mentor that I have met, because as a young woman it has helped shape my mind of who I am and guidance to handle future situations.

In that, I am thankful for this semester I am currently in with college. This semester has been so tough; I am happy for those who have kept me in their prayers. To know that I am in my right mind, to still move forward. I will always be thankful for my professors this semester who have helped me understand and go the extra mile when it comes to different assignments given.

One thing I will be looking forward to on Thanksgiving is spending time with family. The last time I spent time with all of my family members was Christmas 2015. Due to the fact that I live out of state, it is not easy staying connected when family functions happen, and I always want to be a part of it. Due to the unpredictable weather it can be hard to travel home to attend.

I will be Thankful for the big Thanksgiving feast! I love food, so along with being around my family that will be something to look forward to. Some of my favorite thanksgiving foods are BBQ chicken, macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pie. My aunts and uncles are considered chefs in the family, so I can’t wait to see what will be on the menu for Thursday. Along with adding my grandmother’s famous potato salad to make the whole fest complete.

As always, once everyone has filled their stomachs full, we all lounge throughout the house and bring up older memories to share with one another. Those are the good times before everyone begins to nod and take a nap.

Lastly, I will be thankful to rest from doing homework while on break. I will have time to catch up on sleep and turn my brain half-way off from college related things. At this time, I will focus on my life and happiness, maybe get out and experience Black Friday for the first time. Or go out and do some scenic related things, such as driving through neighborhoods to see Christmas lights. Whatever the case maybe, my time will be well spent even if I’m watching movies all day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
