We can't all have a school-free summer spent enjoying endless vacations and binge-watching "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix. For some of us, summer just means another semester of classes. By the time you're reading this article, I've begun my first online summer classes. I'm sure it's not what I'm going to expect, but I can tell you what I've felt leading up to syllabus day. Perhaps I can even illustrate it a little better with the help of "The Office."
When you sign up for a class because it sounds like the easiest option.
Getting the book assignments a week before class starts and seeing "mandatory" beside it.
Getting the mandatory book assignments and then seeing the price.
Seeing your bank account after purchasing that $120 book you'll use twice.
When your professor finally releases the syllabus and you realize this is not going to be as easy of a class as you thought.
Reading the syllabus to find you have two assignments due per chapter for multiple chapters every single day by 5 p.m. and you work until 3 p.m.
Having a professor who lacks good communication skills and clear instructions.
Realizing you're better off just not taking one particular class because it's not worth your sanity.
Finally reaching the first day of class.
To those of you preparing to take summer classes, good luck to you all and may you keep your sanity until the end of the semester. We've got this.
