It's finally here! No more tests, exams, schoolwork (for 3 weeks!). Somehow, the Christmas season brings some kind of happiness and sense of community to people. It's a time to cherish the moments we have with family and reflect on those who have passed on. But what is the "Christmas Season" all about really?
To me, Christmas time is about spending time with your family. I'm so fortunate to have my family that loves me, and to be part of another family who loves me and considers me as their own. Just being able to spend time with them is something I cherish.
Christmas is also about generosity. There are so many people who may not have a family to see on Christmas Day or a house that Santa can visit. Sadly, we can't help everyone with their needs, but we can help those around us. A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to do mission work for those in the community around Christmas time. Even if we cannot do as much as we'd like, every little bit helps.
Christmas is also about finding joy in hard times. This year, a lot of people lost loved ones that were very close to them. It is sometimes hard to find joy during the holidays whenever a loved one is not there. Be a rock for those around you who may be saddened and help them through this time.
So as you are preparing the ham and lighting your tree, find what makes you happy during the season of giving. Whether it's gathering with family and celebrating the birth of Jesus, or helping those around you, find your "reason for the season".
