A Prayer For Our Country

The power of prayer can be overwhelming, but overwhelmingly good. As everyone knows, our country and the countries around us are facing very difficult times, and we need God more than we ever have. Please join me in prayer to pray for the health and well-being of our world.

Dear Gracious and Heavenly Father,

First, I would like to thank you for blessing me with a great life. Though I get discouraged and wonder why things happen the way they do, I have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you for giving me a roof over my head, food on my table, a job that pays my bills, clothes on my back and shoes on my feet.

Thank you for blessing me with a mouth that can speak, ears that can hear and eyes that can see far and wide. Thank you for saving my soul, and for saving me a place in your beautiful kingdom. Thank you for all of your many blessings; I am blessed beyond belief. Without you, my life would be nothing. I could thank you all day, Lord, but my real struggle here are the tragedies that are happening around the globe.

God, you know better than anyone the hatred, anxiousness, confusion, hurtfulness, sadness and misery that each person holds in their heart. You know each man’s viewpoint and reasoning, though it may not be what you wish it to be.

I am asking and praying to you, today, for peace. I’m praying for peacefulness, and the willingness for people to forgive. I’m praying that this world sends more prayers up to you than bombs across countries. I’m praying for more helpful hands than wounded bodies. I’m praying for open-mindedness, a thought of clarity, an epiphany, just something that can get our world less worn down and more focused on you.

Lord, please give each of us the strength to continue through these troubling times. I pray for the hurting families that have lost loved ones. You know their struggles. I pray for America and the surrounding countries – please hold us tight. I pray for those who are thought to, but are not to, be blamed for terrorist actions, mass murders, or mass shootings. I even am praying for those who are to blame, God. Heal our hearts. We need you now more than ever.

Our world as we know it is dwindling down to almost nothing. Our world with you as our Savior is dwindling down as well.

Dear God, show me the path, give me the strength, and the words I need to shed your light unto others. If our God is for us, then who could ever stop us? I know you are for us, Lord. Be with our leaders as they make decisions that can affect the rest of humanity and life here on Earth. I pray that you keep me safe, us safe, every one safe, God.

From the bottom of my heart and in Jesus’ name, I pray,

Amen.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
