There are laws for everything in the world. This is even true down to the structure of our government and our physical anatomy. Laws of science and nature predict a range of phenomena to describe how something will behave in the future and how something already has behaved in the past. They hold constructs of the things that can’t be validated by the human eye and they are seen as a discipline that is unchangeable. Although seemingly invincible, these constructs of nature and science are trumped by one thing that is far more indescribable than nature or science--humans.

The Law of Gravity: a natural phenomenon explaining the pull of objects towards the center of other objects of mass and Apollo 11; the first mission of our human species on the moon and of man defying gravity. Laws of Evolution: a slow and steady process of natural selection and now, genetically modified human embryos. Despite the laws that constrain humans whether it is of science, nature or technology, humans have found a way to advance past this constraint.

Not only are boundaries crossed in essence of the laws of science and nature, humans have roughed through emotional triumphs and physical adversity through the power of spirit and of mind. Think of the last time you asked yourself if you were ever going to get through a hard time in your life and now look at where you are. You made it. You are still existing as if nothing bad had ever happened. This hard time of stress is just another reminder that you absolutely can advance past the hard things you must overcome right now. Remind yourself that you are human and you have done this before; you have mustered up the power to push onto the next obstacle that you now need to overcome.

Maybe you do not defy gravity and maybe you can’t compare to the technological advancements of evolution, but you certainly can defy the adversities in your own world. You are a part of a species that dwells on the power of being able to overcome such adversities. You are a part of the species that dismiss the laws of gravity and travel to the moon, you are a part of the species that has evolved over structures that once defined the human species in a specific way. You are a part of a species that when pushed, pushes back even harder. You strive more for the growth of yourself despite the situation of misfortune. This hardship in your life should be held to the same standard.

Remember, you are a human being and that in itself holds so much power. You are unlike any other species in this world and you may take that for granted each and every day. It is hard to understand the importance of your being, but try to remind yourself of it every day. You are blessed with a body as your vessel to obtain knowledge and to move, and move others, in powerful ways. Move mountains in your own world and defy laws within your boundaries because you are a human being and the power of being human lies in the density of the heart, the depth of reflection and the intensity of knowledge. Most importantly, remember you are a product of a species that defy laws, you have the power to challenge the boundaries that you have in your life at this very moment because, in reality, you already have.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
