Ah, the dreaded week after spring break is upon us. After spending the week relaxing on the beach or at the slopes, you now find yourself back on campus slaving over homework. If you're like me, waking up for your classes early Monday morning after spring break was possibly the worst part of your semester.
Luckily, the break gave me a lot of time to relax and reflect on the first half of the semester. And even though I was well aware of the homework and tests that awaited me the week after break, I told myself that it could all wait until Sunday. When Sunday came around, I found myself extremely overwhelmed. How is it possible that I have so many papers due? Is my professor the devil? Was I even in this class before break? I spent the entire day stressed out and rushing through my homework. But do I have any regrets about procrastinating, absolutely not. College is difficult and everyone deserves a break. You only have a limited amount of time left in college to enjoy breaks, so why waste them? Doing your homework and studying are important, but the memories you made during the break are just as equally important.
The spring break slump, referring to the period of time in which you feel depressed because real life hits you in the face, is not as terrible as you might think. Instead of focusing on the positives, students affected by the slump become bogged down under the stress of classes and college life. It's important to remember that this semester is not over. There are still seven weeks left to either turn your grades around or bring them down. Staying motivated during this seven week period is critical to your success. Remind yourself why you're going to college.
Don't let this week keep you down. Just remember, there are only seven more weeks left in this semester and then three months of freedom. Take some deep breaths and start studying. Finish the semester strong — you've got this.
