With spring break far in our past, we realize how horribly our diet continued on spring break. It seems that a week of Pop-Tarts and frozen pizzas did not end so well. Who would have thought that? As a clean eating fanatic, here are some tips to help get you back on track and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
For starters, it is important to eat clean. Cutting out soda and processed food will kickstart getting your healthy lifestyle. For those who were not spring break ready this year, and want to get a jump-start for summer, this is what I suggest.
First, it is important to maintain a consistent workout schedule. Working out five days of the week is good with a two a day workout program. It is important to give your body a one to two day break. Over working out is not good on your body. The morning is the best time for a 30-minute cardio routine. This will help you get your clean eating day started, but it is important to switch up the routine. Doing the same act every day will make your body used to the routine and won't help you get or maintain the body you want. Before dinner is the best time to do an hour-long full body work out. Now, for clean eating it is important to stick to about 1,200 calories per day while getting in all the vitamins, proteins and veggies a person needs. This all depends on how many calories you burn a day. Here is an example of a daily diet routine.
Morning
30-minute cardio.
Breakfast: egg Whites with spinach and tomatoes, with chia and flaxseed, seasoned with sea salt and pepper. If you drink coffee try switching to using coconut oil as creamer and agave nectar.
Mid morning snack: half a grapefruit.
Afternoon
Lunch: large spinach salad with arugula and kale. Add in as many veggies as you would like and a protein of your choice with a vinaigrette dressing.
Mid afternoon snack: eat a protein bar or fruit smoothie (Laura Bars are great).
Night
1-hour, full body workout.
Dinner: make sure all portions are the size of your palm. Eat a protein and any green veggie of your choice. If you feel like you need some sort of starch, switch to quinoa. It is great with tricking your mind to think it is getting rice.
Before bed: drink a cup of green tea. This will help you sleep.
This is a routine that I have been sticking with that has made a big difference in my life. Just eating anything non-processed has given me more energy and has reduced bloating.
When dieting, it is also important to drink lots and lots of water, at least six bottles a day. The weekends are a time to relax, don't lose yourself completely, but it is okay to allow yourself one or two cheat meals to reward yourself on your progress. The most important aspect of dieting is making it a lifestyle change. It is important to do this for your health not just to look the way you think you need to look. Change the way you look at yourself. Find a positive quote that inspires you and remind yourself why you are making this lifestyle change. Loving yourself is the most important aspect of maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle.
