Anytime you post anything, a picture, status, tweet, whatever it is, it’s now public. And although most of the time we can understand that, I don’t think that we always REALLY understand what that means. Let’s say you delete something, maybe you just applied to a new job and you know they might check your social media, yea, last weekend in Ybor was craaaaazzyy and you got some cool picture, but the ones of you drinking, you take down. Well, little do you know even though the reassurance of seeing the deleted notification pop up is warm and cuddly, that picture could still be online. So now you ask how, well maybe you not only posted it but your friend did too, and maybe you’re tagged in your friends post …well that pops up when they search you name. Or maybe some person saved it and shared it, maybe your name is linked to somehow… The end result could be your future employer, (well would have been) sees it, say bye bye to that new job!
Always before you post something you need to think if it even matters to post, I mean now-a-days people post updates on how their dinner is, like “these potatoes are so smooth and fluffy” *post* “this chicken is so tender, it’s really good with ketchup!” *post* again, and again, and again. Yea, cool we get it. But really think if you even care about posting it, like maybe you and your boyfriend got in a fight and you want to post some mean tweet about blowing up his truck…OKAY pause, let’s just say no. Now, if you decide you want to post something, say a cute picture of you and your bestie, yea! Go for it! What’s the boss man going to do?
Wither a picture, tweet, email, insta post, etc. feel confident that in 5 years if you see it again you won’t be ashamed to have posted it. Or heck, just think “if I had a boss would they care if I posted this?” yes, no, maybe? The decision of a second could change not only your career but the rest of your life. Choose wisely my friends!
