The entire month of December is dedicated to the preparation of Christmas. Immediately following the feast of Thanksgiving, many venture out to grab the best Black Friday deals to kick off their Christmas shopping—and after that it only continues. To say it is the busiest time of year would be no exaggeration—because every mall, Target, grocery store, and anything in between gets more and busier.
Outdoor lights begin to go up, and soon the same old drive down the neighborhood becomes a little brighter. Christmas trees are strapped to the top of cars, and every advertisement on TV usually includes the colors red and green accompanied by a Christmas song announcing another great gift idea for that significant other. The lines at Macy’s, Nordstrom, and even your favorite coffee shop—just to name a few—are always longer than usual no matter what time of day it is. Family members and friends travel from all around the world to make it home for the big day, and schools let their students out to enjoy a long holiday break.
So after all of the racing around from store to store, endless gift-wrapping and cookie decorating (eating), Christmas morning arrives. Gifts are opened, and soon the entire room is decorated in all different types of wrapping and tissue paper. The day is spent with family and friends over an overwhelming amount of treats and mimosas. But, on the morning of December 26th, there comes those post-Christmas feelings.
- A major sugar hangover is usually a result following Christmas Day. Cookies, chocolate, pie, and any desert in between flow through the bloodstream.
- The Christmas tree decorated in the window no longer belongs, and quite frankly it’s somewhat depressing knowing that it has to come down sooner than later.
- Is it time for bed yet? *Thoughts at 3:00 O’clock in the afternoon*
- All of the colorful Christmas lights and decorations around the stores, malls and neighborhood start to come down, and suddenly it’s that boring old drive again.
- Back to work and back to school. It was inevitable and we all knew it, but it just came too fast—yet again.
- Time to hit the gym to work off that one-month feast of favorite holiday drinks at Starbucks, weekly baking mania, and an overload of appetizers at all those Christmas parties.
- The realization that it’s another 365-day wait until all the fun can happen again seems like forever—probably because it is.
