You have two choices in life: to be the best person you can be or to settle for mediocracy. In the act of bettering yourself, it is essential to surround yourself with people who support you in every endeavor intended to be conquered. When you support others as well, you become inspired and motivated to subdue personal goals.
The most important things that make life worth living are the little efforts; it's about pushing others to be their best and vice versa, receiving and giving compliments to brighten days, and offering compassion to one another. We have become so accustomed to worrying about ourselves or what we can get out of others for our own personal advancements. It's time that we stop living solely for ourselves and start being the best people we can be to make this world a little brighter. Simple actions like holding the door open for others, offering a dollar to the homeless, and stopping your car to let the pedestrians cross the street even where there is no crosswalk can make someone's day, and even yours. Not only are you helping others, but you are helping yourself by striving to be kind and proving your benevolence. Surrounding yourself in contagious positivity will only come back to you in the most powerful ways. Happiness is infectious. It's time we take this into consideration and work toward making our environments better places. Karma is capable of being generous in the extremes: it can be the worst thing, or the best. When you become more selfless, you will receive more from the universe and from others around you.
Being optimistic is not the easiest thing to do in today's society; it is very difficult to stay happy when nothing seems to be going right and people are making things worse. Just know that everyone is going through their own personal battles regardless of the sizes. Try to be that person that makes their day. Try to be that influence for them to spread their own alacrity to others they encounter. Try to be that human that makes others want to be better people. Sometimes all people need are comforting words and a hug. Other times they may just want someone to listen. But apply yourself in any situation because you just might be able to learn something, whether it be more about the person, a life lesson, or about yourself. How you react to situations and people explain a lot about the person you are, so why not try to better yourself even in the most minuscule of ways?
In such dark times in this world that is beaten by terrorism, racism, sexism and much more, it is up to us humans to try to spread even a little bit of light. Everything can be going wrong during the day, but it takes one person to turn it all around by even a small act of selflessness. If you stop wallowing in self pity and radiate optimism, the universe will begin to act in your favor. Be kind to others as well as yourself. Take the time to learn from others to learn more about yourself. If you focus only on yourself, you will never hear the amazing stories of the war veteran, you will never see the painting the way the artist does, and you will never see how someone with nothing can still smile. People are incredible and you can make yourself that much more amazing by giving instead of relying on receiving. Small steps can turn into large leaps. Slight pushes can lead to moving mountains. It is all about where you start and how; tomorrow, start your day by doing something nice for someone else even if it is just making them breakfast or letting the car that is waiting to turn in front of you. I promise you will not only better their day, but yours will be improved because you are taking a smell step in a good direction.
