There are many ideas about test preparation that boggle my mind for the simple fact that they defy laws of reality, science and common sense. I have been fortunate enough to have educators, mentors and other resources to provide me with useful information that I have been able to personally assess and share with others for the sake of success. Here are a few of the practices I have put to use for my exam preparation.
Begin studying in advance.
Many people have the habit of studying at the last minute for quizzes and exams, myself included. However, I was able to overcome my procrastination and begin studying every day for at least one session of 30-45 minutes for each subject. In college, assignments and other responsibilities can and will pile up quickly if you do not manage them properly. It is easy to fall behind and be forced to play catch up when you have several deadlines approaching simultaneously, making it more vital to make sure you manage your scholastic responsibilities more carefully. By beginning assignment and study preparation in advance one creates more breathing room for themselves and doesn’t have to worry about the possibility of failure. I’m not sure but it seems like a much better deal to be prepared ahead of time than yanking my hair out from pure anxiety.
Completely disown binge studying habits.
Most people when studying for anything have a tendency to study for hours and hours at a time, particularly the night before an exam. It is a scientific fact that the brain stops absorbing information after 45 minutes; anything after that 45-minute period is not being retained, no matter how dedicated we are to cramming in more information. We are not only wasting our time but overworking ourselves and keeping ourselves awake longer. Another element that is forgotten while cramming for tests is rest, which we sacrifice withdrawn out study sessions; If our bodies and minds are not adequately charged for any task, the desired end result becomes less probable. It simply does not make sense to knowingly increase the possibility of performing at a lower level.
Leave no stone un-turned.
There are plenty of beneficial study tips and practices to be used, but often times we utilize very few of them. From flash cards to listening to certain frequencies while we sleep to studying in groups, there are a variety of alternative preparation methods. Here are even supplements available online and in any nutrition shop for increased focus and to aid sleep. It never hurts to try out new recommendations and techniques when pursuing the highest possible grade on an assessment. By giving new practices a go, one learns what works and doesn’t work for them when preparing themselves for anything, especially something as important as an exam.
