For someone hoping to work in Social Media Management, I'll be the first to admit I have a shockingly low number of apps. I stick to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat, and by stick to I mean compulsively check, upload, like, pin, close.
I don't have the time (storage) for many apps, so when I do download a new app, it's because it's something I see myself using a lot. PopKey, my most recent download, was no exception, and so far has proved itself to be well worth the songs I had to delete from my phone to make room for it in my storage.
Sure it's never saved my life like one of those apps that reaches all your emergency contacts with the touch of a button, but it has saved me the trouble of finding a perfect response for literally any text, so to each his own when determining the value of an app.
The app is similar to Emoji, in that it saves as an app on your phone, which you then add as a Keyboard in your Settings. Once it's set as a keyboard in your phone, you click through just like you would to switch from letters to numbers, numbers to emoji, etc., but the last Keyboard will be PopKey's array of emotions.
Emotions include: thumbs up, not amused, whatever, nope, wink, clapping, stop, bored, wow, confused, lol, sad, cheers, hair flip, what, eyeroll, mind blown, crazy, eeesh, cool, and chill just to name a few.
Once you click how you're feeling, you can scroll through endless .gifs portraying that emotion. The sassy little hair flip emoji's glory days are over now that I can click "hairflip," and scroll through 20 people from Beyonce to Tyra Banks to Rihanna flipping her hair, click it, press send, and watch it steal the show in the group message.
The majority of my friends have downloaded the app, and to say it has changed our texting game would be an understatement. For example:
When the Ritualist said we not only had to be at the house for Ritual Review at 9am, but that we also couldn't bring Dunkin or Starbucks:
When my friend was trying to get her point across to her boyfriend and he just wasn't getting it, and Liz Lemon under "frustrated," knew exactly how she felt:
When I drove for one hour without my phone and opened it up to 66 texts in a group message of 4 people:
When that girl who always brags on social media posted yet another status about how fabulous her life was and all we could do was enthusiastically* clap:
*sarcastically
When my friend told me our other friend was back with the guy we all hate and there was no way to portray an eyeroll in words, but this girl nailed it for me:
These are just five of the hundreds of gifs that are a touch away when you download PopKey. They say a picture's worth a thousand words, and if that's true, a .gif is worth at least a thousand more, and definitely worth a PopKey download.
