As Americans, we live in a society where much of what we do is rewarded with instant gratification. We have stores that deliver things right upon our doorstep, we have restaurants that deal us the orders we want in mere minutes, and we have basically everything else we could want at our fingertips via the internet. Whether we like it or not, we have an extremely self-entitled society. This lifestyle bleeds over into many aspects of life; our political system is a prime example of this.
Let me explain. You may be thinking, "Oh no, Drake. You're wrong! I have not one entitled bone in my body!" If I had to venture a guess, though, you want the issues with our political system fixed today. I've got news for you: our political system has been screwed up over the course of several years. Hell, several presidencies are to blame for the issues that we are facing today. Our deficit? It's racked up over the course of a few terms. While I would love to shovel all of the blame onto President Obama, I'm not entirely sure it's fair to do that. Do I think he's caused quite a few problems as president? Sure. Has he done what he though might be best to correct some of those problems? Maybe, maybe not. Who knows.
My point is this: no one president can fix all of the problems. No one congress can fix all of our problems. Whether it be our economy, our healthcare system, our energy crisis, or anything in-between, it will take time to fix these issues. There's not even a guarantee we'll be on track to fix any of these things from the first attempt we try. We always expect issues to be solvable, but not all things are so easily rectified. Going into the elections this Tuesday, and into any elections in the future, it is important to pick whichever candidate we feel could do the job properly and get us on the right path.
The problems we face as a society don't always have black and white solutions. They don't always have short-term answers, either. Our system isn't always perfect, but it does have the capability to get the job done if we allow it to be so. Follow your heart and make you voice heard!
