Most kids who grew up in the 90's had one main dream and that was to become a "Pokemon" Master! However, the closest thing they could do was play the games, and collect the cards. That is until "Pokemon Go" came out.
"Pokemon Go" was just released on July 6, and already 90's kids all over the country are downloading the game on their phones and going out into the real world to catch some "Pokemon."
I have downloaded the app the day it was released, made and got my username, customized my trainer, and then started collecting right away. I have caught 10 different Pokemon so far, and it's just going to keep on going up. I cant wait to go around the neighborhood and start catching new Pokemon.
Now here is a little rundown on the app. It is good so far. There have been a few times where the server had crashed, and I was close to catching an Eevee but it kept freezing (I did eventually catch that Eevee though!) There are still a few things they need to fix but other than that, it's a pretty decent app.
One interesting thing about the app is that there are certain places in our neighborhood that are considered Poke Stops. What it does is that they pick out certain places where you can find some items like Poke balls and even an Egg. Who knows what could be in there. An example of a Poke Stop location is your local park that is actually one of the most popular stop locations. Always keep an eye out for those, but wander cautiously though, and make sure you don't risk your life just to get a Poke Ball.
Another thing is that whenever you see little leaves moving, that means there is a Pokemon nearby. Your phone often vibrates when a Pokemon has been spotted. It has often been spotted in the weirdest places. Five times already Rattata has showed up in my room!
One thing I hope for the future is the ability to fight other trainers, whether nearby or around the country. Also I would like some new outfits for our trainer, and potentially the option for offline Pokemon catching as well (its a long shot to actually get, but hey, fingers crossed!). And maybe, just maybe, an appearance by Team Rocket?
What I have noticed is that ever since the app launched, people started going outside more, walking around, sometimes in places that they wouldn't normally walk around in. The only worry I have about this is that there may be incidents where the person playing the game may end up in a backyard that is not their own just to catch a Pikachu. There is also potentially getting lost and winding up in a bad neighborhood and you have to think to yourself is that Mr. Mime really worth getting mugged? So my advice is just please be careful of your surroundings.
So have fun catching Pokemon but also be careful as well. I mean I love the fact that its getting people to go outside more, but also make sure you look up every now and then to see what is right in front of you!
Happy catching, fellow Trainers!
