The Pen: A Poem

In response to 11 Reasons To Write More, Starting Today

You have always been there -

my own superpower when

I needed it.

Because of you

I let my thoughts

run free, nothing

hidden as paper meets

a pen for the first time,

jet black lines curve

into letters, my own

relief.

Words written,

sometimes things

that will never be spoken.

So they are penned,

hidden away in secret

pages never to see the

light of day.

Not always so easy,

feelings can make

for an unsettled soul

if not channelled right.

It is not just relief,

it is a weapon for those

in need.

The pen can be used for good -

never to let the author down.

With a pen I fly free,

my thoughts cascade

into words on a page.

A remedy,

a medicine.

The answers I

require run free

with a pen in my hand.

A soul less burdened when

I hold a pen.

I remember how exciting summer was when I was a kid. I would just be eagerly waiting for school to end so that I could fly to some exotic location with my family for the summer. Or hang out with my friends every day. Or just lay around in bed or read, paint, draw, basically do whatever.

Soccer, Spain and Racism

When we think of events that have transpired in the US over the last few years, a lot of it ends up in spotlighting the division in the country. However, things across the pond seem to be no better - at least when it comes to sports. Last week, Real Madrid - arguably the richest sports franchise in the world, had one of their Brazilian strikers subject to vicious racist attacks in Valencia.
