The End
No one really likes the end,
It’s the saddest part of all
When what we love falls apart
And we search for something new
No one really likes that it’s over
The fun we’ve had, left in photographs
Songs and poems stained with salty tears
Always reminding us of the end
We love the new beginning
The great news of the fresh start
An opportunity for
Us to heal our broken hearts
Maybe we can make a new story
One without pain, loss or hurt feelings
Where the end never sneaks up on us
Where the pages fill with words instead
This poem is about how painful endings can be, whether they are in a story or in real life. As humans, we abhor any change that keeps us from being immediately happy. We yearn for the way things used to be. But we should take comfort in the healing power of time, and the bright possibilities of new beginnings. In the words of Shel Silverstein, "There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part. So just give me a happy middle and a very happy start."
