Poetry On Odyssey: Eloquence

Language and the ability to speak and communicate effectively is something that often goes unthought of on a daily basis. Like many things in life, it is only when we lose it that we come to really appreciate its importance. Within the dominant hemisphere language functions are centralized in, one of the two main areas associated with language is Wernicke's area. Wernicke's area is located in the temporal lobe and is involved in understanding language. When Wernicke's area is damaged, it leads to fluent aphasia or Wernicke's aphasia, a condition where the individual does not have trouble producing words, but the words spoken do not make a coherent phrase. In other words, individuals with Wernicke's aphasia have the ability to spout nonsense in the most confident and eloquent ways.

Eloquence

Good evening in the day time!
My name is like Billy and I'm happy
are you pretty? You look good this fine hour
when the clock hands go click clack
and the hands spin around.
The hands on the clock go fast with the hands
that move like a zebra in the grass tall in the sun
that shines real bright like a lemon
in a blue glass bowl.
I like to talk with the clock hands real
in a fast kind of way that
are you understand? And she smiles
and gives her head the up and down nod that her cheeks
giggle a little in the vibrant sort of way
that makes the smile on me too.
And this talking is because it has always been
a favorite activity to happen to me because
I like it when the people look at me
with clear, vacant eyes and show the teeth in the laugh
when I spoke the words that come out
like dam water that has a hole to cover up too big.
I also like them have clear eye crystals like in the moon
because I don't thought about the things in my head too very much
and that makes simple life. Not that I have no thinks in the brain
I have a many that swim around and go out in
and far there and away.
Sometimes I like to just sit in my chair on the afternoon
in Wednesday with a mug of tea hot now cold because I forget
and stretch the hand of mine to try catch
them fading floating so I can hold it in my hands
warm from the tea and hold it keep for a time.
I look at you and now smile at me and
I think it was good meeting me and you.
Come visit again soon. I greatly love to see the faces smile.
Thank you kindly for your hours
and I hope the world lasts for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
