A free verse poem about invisibility versus prominence in respect to what is considered common and what is considered uncommon and less noticeable.
Of all the natural beauties
Covering the ground
Formed of the crystallization processes
Within the earth
Millions of years old
Like a turquoise gemstone among opaque similars,
It's not outstanding, nor is it unique,
But its popularity stems from this commonality.
Acceptance in numbers.
Because by many a standard is consecrated,
And by one nothing.
So is conformity the only answer?
A clear quartz crystal of good nature,
And subtle power, even in its transparency
Is still more acceptable
Than plain glass, colorless and invisible
Not purposefully, but naturally.
Inevitably perhaps.
There are hidden gems
Never meant to be seen
