Poetry On Odyssey: Bruises

Just a little poem I thought up.

Poetry On Odyssey: Bruises

Her arms are swollen, yellow, and green

Just a bump here and punch there

She bruises like a peach

She smiles through the pain, keeping her history sealed

His bones are broken, snapped in half

The skin is lumpy and scarred

He doesn't remember how his body got like this

He doesn't want to relive the pain

Her heart aches for something more

Rejection after rejection gets to her core

She's waiting for the perfect person

She fears they'll never come along

His fingers are stiff from long nights at work

If he were to take a day off, everything would crumble

He feels the pressure on his shoulders

He bruises in more ways than one

Her mind is tired of the endless thoughts

They float around taunting her, all-day

She wants to silence that voice

She wants someone to listen to her speak

His silence is from saying the wrong thing one too many times

The words stay locked in his mouth, never leaving his tongue

He never wanted this twisted freedom

He just wanted someone to listen

They had never met before

Living two different lives miles apart

Their lives collide after everything happens, too many years later

Their feelings won't stop even though they want them to

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
