Poetry On Odyssey: "My Mom, She Is"

She is the absolute strongest person I know.

In life, we all have certain people who we're close with and hold onto them so tight so we never let them go. Well, for me, that person would hands down be my mom. Throughout my entire life she has always been there for me. Through all the many ups and downs life has to offer she has helped me get through them by both picking me up and cheering me on along the way.

I can honestly say I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for her always believing and encouraging me to be the absolute best I can be. I know I've brought my mom up in some of my articles, but I've never done something like write a poem about her before. Because how can I possibly sum up everything she's done for me and been through in her life in just a poem? I can't even do an entire article and feel like I've said everything I should.

But, I've decided to go with this anyway because recently I've watched my mom go through a lot these past few months. And the way she was able to make it through has inspired me to write this for her. So, Mom, I just wanted to say thank you and tell you how much you mean to me.

My Mom, She Is

She is

the hand

who lifts me up

when I can't get up myself.

She is

the shoudler

I use

to cry on

when nothing seems

to be going right.

She is

the arms

that wrap around me

when I've had a bad day

and sometimes words

aren't even needed.

She is

the feet

that lead me in

the right direction

when I can't

see it in front of me.

She is

the light

that comes through

the clouds

on my darkest days.

She is

a parent

who raised her two kids herself

while the other was too busy

drinking.

She is

the strongest person I know

who battled through hell and back

yet thanked me for being so strong

if only she knew how much I cried.

She is

my best friend

when everyone left

and even when some stayed.

She is

bold with her words

and never silences her voice

what I would do to be

like that for a day.

She is

my mother

and I've never

felt more lucky

to be her daughter.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
