For the longest time I was afraid of poetry and never was too interested in it. This all changed when I was introduced to Rupi Kaur and her book "Milk and Honey." I read her entire collection of poems in a half hour. I was hooked. One of the main reasons was because I found myself really being able to relate to a lot of her writing and found it very applicable to my life. I can honestly say I have never been so moved by someone's words and I hope that these and the rest of Kaur's writing can be as inspiring, healing, comforting, and empowering to others
1.
You are someone special all on your own. You were someone special way before he came along and you will stay that way even if he leaves. Don't ever let anyone make you think differently.
2.
Sometimes it can be tough to be single, especially when you're used to being in a relationship. Sometimes you try so hard to find someone new with hope they will come and other times they just show up in your life when you least expect it.
3.
This poem is one of my favorite poems written by Rupi Kaur. Written in such beautiful and powerful ways Kaur is able to demand respect and make it known what she is and what she is not. It's important for anyone in a relationship to make sure both you and your partner are on the same page and that they do not take advantage of you in any way. Demand respect, stand your ground, let it be known how much you are worth.
4.
These days, so many compliments regarding physical appearance are thrown around that they almost become meaningless because they are so frequent. While they can be flattering, compliments on personality and what makes you you can be so much more meaningful.
5.
You can drive yourself crazy wondering if someone likes you or wants to be with you and you can torture yourself by going over what happened and what would happen if you had done this or that. As harsh as it may be, it's time to stop dwelling on the past and worrying about the future and take a look at what is happening now, it will tell all.
6.
It is so hard to live in a world constantly filled with comparisons. Girls/women spend so much time wanting to look like others that they become obsessive and lose themselves, not realizing they were beautiful to begin with. Love what you look like and who you are.
7.
People have always told me "you have to love yourself before anyone else can love you" and for the longest time I didn't understand this. But now I do. If you can't love yourself and see yourself for all the wonderful things you are how do you expect anyone else to? Love yourself.
8.
In life you go through many stages, the crush stage, the hook up stage, the relationship stage, etc. In order to be fair to yourself you have to make sure both you and your partner have the same intentions. Don't give 100% of yourself to someone who is only giving you 10%.
9.
Do not ever let someone make you feel like you were not enough or good enough for them. You were enough before and you are enough after. THEY are not enough for you.
10.
Much like some of Kaur's other poems, this one is telling you that you alone are enough. You are the only person who can complete yourself. Others can merely be an addition, a "complement". Don't depend on anyone other than yourself because you are more than enough.
