Podcast are definitely on the rise. For Apple users this may be more apparent as recent software updates have installed a podcast app automatically. For someone who wasn't born in the golden age of talk radio, Podcast feel like a whole new thing for me. For folks older than myself, I'm sure podcast feel like a more sleek, less commercial filled reminder of the good old days of radio.
So whether you've been listening to podcast or you haven't, you should definitely check them out on your way to school, work, or whatever. Not sure what to listen to? Well I'll break down some of my favorite podcast and the best episodes to listen to for first timers.
WTF with Marc Maron
Marc Maron's show is one of my favorite podcast to listen to and The number 38th most listened to podcast on apple. Maron is a stand-up comedian and currently has a show on IFC. The podcast started out as a way to patch up disputes he has had with a lot of former stand-up comedians he has blown off in the past or had falling outs with. Now that he has patched *most* of those relationships he has gone on to interview a lot of great celebrities from Kristen Wiig, to Eric Andre, to President Obama. Yep. You read that right, the President.
Maron is very talented in having in depth discussions that cover guest's career paths in a conversation that has a very natural flow and doesn't feel like an interview. Maron has a great radio voice and even makes the two or three ads he has sound interesting.
Favorite episodes: Eric Andre, Seth Meyers, Ali Wong, and Kristin Wiig.
9308
Filmmaker Mason Boudreau talks with friends and guests about everything in the world of entertainment and sports. The 9308 had it's first episode on June 17th, 2016 and has since had 15 more packed episodes with a variety of guest, myself included. While some of the topics discussed can become kind of dated with time, mainly sports a lot of the deeper conversations that happen on this podcast are timeless. Mason remains current and up to date on the world of music, sports, and film while infusing an introspective conversation with his guest that allows listeners to really know the featured guest.
Favorite Episodes: #3/#4 with Jaron Wallace, #5 The Legend of Illdotlogic, #8 with Caleb Michael Sarvis, #11 If you want something, do it, and #14 Noah Bennett.
My Dad Wrote A Porno
I look forward to this podcast, EVERY single week. It is so incredibly funny. In short My Dad Wrote A Porno is the true story of how the host, Jamie discovered that his 60 year old father wrote an erotic novel entitled Belinda Blinked under the pen name Rocky Flintstone. So Jamie along with two of his friends read a chapter each week for the first time while offering their commentary. It is a lovely, disgusting, brilliant mess.
Favorite Episodes: ALL OF IT.
NERDIST
Nerdist is another one of my favorites for interviews. Nerdist is a bunch of nerds from gaming, to TV, to film interviewing some of the biggest stars. It is very fresh, informative, and fun. It also has the best sign off of any podcast I've listened to. It is the 40th most listened to podcast on Apple.
Favorite Episodes: Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Billy West, Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow, Paul Rudd, and Quentin Tarantino.
The No Sleep Podcast
The No Sleep Podcast generally is a reading of 3 scary, creepy stories submitted by writers. They are creepy, dark, and the endings are almost always sure to make your skin crawl. It's such a great late night listen and I think what this podcast has going for it is simply the fact that you have to listen to it. What you don't see is scarier than what you do see.
Favorite Episodes: Any
Those are some of my favorite podcast all posted apple's platform. You can also find these on their own websites or Soundcloud. Some honorable mentions that I have just began to listen to are, Anna Faris is Unqualified, Comedy Bang Bang, Unexplained, and Melissa Show. Check these out too! They're great!
