Whether you're into hardcore metal or soft indie acoustics, the Pacific Northwest (PNW) has a lot of talented musicians that may not be on your radar yet. These are the up-in-comers who could be the next Nirvana (they started in Aberdeen) or Death Cab For Cutie (started their careers in Bellingham).
Side note: I have been to a few house shows in DCFC's old basement, where they recorded their first album. I might have freaked out a bit.
Here are three artists you should start looking out for.
1. Designer Disguise.
If you're into heavy rock with a hint of pop, Designer Disguise is a band that you will want to check out. The rock band started up in Seattle, Washington this year and has already released an EP. They frequently play shows around the Northwest. Designer Disguise will surprise you because they aren't your typical rock band. Their music often starts out soft and builds in a way you wouldn't expect. Expect a lot more from this band, and make sure to check them out.
Songs to check out: Horrorshow and Hearts & Minds. You can follow them on Twitter and Instagram: @designerdisguiz. Check out their first EP, "Hearts & Minds" on iTunes, Spotify or Google Play.
2. PYN.
For those who love electronic beats and an indie-acoustic voice, you will love PYN. Jared Wangenstein is the artist behind his alter ego, PYN. PYN started in 2014 in Portland, Oregon. Most of his work is on Soundcloud and YouTube, making it easy for you to find it. PYN brings a moodiness to the electronica that makes you get the feels and leaves you wanting more.
Songs to check out: Heartbreak ft. Alyssa Chamberlain & Him. You can follow PYN on Twitter and Facebook. All music on SoundCloud.
3. Sam Waldorf.
If you love artist mashups and an acoustic guitar, Sam Waldorf is your man. The musician is fairly new to the scene but he is one you will defiantly want to watch out for. Currently a student in Missoula, Montana, Waldorf finds time to play local gigs and make artsy music videos. All his music is on YouTube and is really impressive. The mashups are ones you wouldn't expect to work out, but they do. One being Foster the People and Watsky, two very different artists who somehow come together in an acoustic masterpiece. Make sure to keep an eye out for more from Waldorf.
Songs to check out: Pumped up Kicks/Energy & Don't/No Diggity. You can follow Sam Waldorf on Youtube and Facebook.
There are so many more artists in the PNW, but for now these are some you should check out. Start looking outside the top 20 lists and look in your local area for musicians to follow. You never know who could be the next big thing.
