I have officially been using the music app, Spotify, for one year now. I heard about it through word of mouth and finally decided to give it a chance. I’ve never been a huge fan of paying money to a membership that would end up being a waste. However, Spotify has proven me very wrong with this theory.
After using Spotify for free, I eventually gave in and bought my premium subscription. And, for those of you who aren’t aware, Spotify offers a student discount where students only pay $4.99 a month for all the regular services. The first thing that sparked my attraction to Spotify was the fact that you could search for practically any song that exists (except for Taylor Swift. I’m still waiting for that glorious day).
The second thing I loved about Spotify was all the playlists. I am a playlist junkie. Ever since I had my little pink iPod nano in seventh grade, I have been making playlists, and before that, mixed CDs were my life.
Spotify offers the section of browsing. Under this section, they have tabs that have new releases, genre & mood, etc. My favorite tab is genre & mood. Because, before this app, I can’t count how many times I used to think to myself, “Man, I wish my phone could detect what mood I’m in and play songs based on that.” Well, now that invention is here. Maybe not fully, but I’ll take it.
So, I want to share with you, what I think are the five best Spotify playlists that I have come across in the past year.
1. Chill Vibes, created by Spotify: This playlist has seven hours worth of music you can listen to while you’re just chillin' or even driving. It’s usually new music that you don’t know the words to yet, so you can’t get too distracted. This comes in handy for me when studying, and I usually end up adding every song I hear to my song list.
2. Confidence Boost, created by Spotify: It doesn’t matter how old you are or if you’re a man or woman; there are always times when you don’t feel your best, and this playlist helps just that! It has 50 songs that you probably already know, but forgot about, and they help you change your outlook of yourself that day and start making you feel much more confident.
3. Fun Workout, created by Spotify: Over half a million Spotify users follow this playlist, and it’s clear to see why. It’s literally always updated with new songs, and for people who work out every day, sometimes listening to the same music can get old. So this playlist always gives you something new.
4. Old Disney Channel Songs, created by lmariebartlett: This playlist was created by yours truly, but I was very inspired by other similar playlists. This playlist is aimed mostly toward people my age, and if you’re anything like me, sometimes you just need a good jam sesh to your favorite music from middle school. I spent much more time making this than I would like to admit, but it was totally worth it. For me, all I listened to was Hilary Duff, Aly & Aj, Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. So, initially, this playlist has 11 hours of those artists and other Disney artists I grew up listening to.
5. Acoustic Covers, created by Spotify: This playlist has over 1.2 million followers and almost 10 hours of music. It offers so much to listeners. There are covers of artists that range from Justin Bieber to Outkast to Little Big Town. I have found that sometimes, no matter how much I love a song, the cover can be just as addicting.
Music is so mind-blowingly awesome. It can make people cry, laugh, be nostalgic or even cause them to have goosebumps. There is almost a song for every emotion or event ever, and the connection it brings to people is irreplaceable.
So obviously, I definitely recommend Spotify to everyone. There is some type of music you like on there — I can almost guarantee it. Plus, jamming out in the car is one of the best things about life. There are so many genres, moods and playlists to choose from that you won’t regret downloading it. Then you’ll probably eventually buy your subscription, unless you can stand to listen to the annoying ads — in that case, props to you.
It will definitely become an app that you won’t consider deleting when you run out of storage.
