Home is where our story begins.
When people think about home, they usually think about the place they live or where they were born. Some have their home where the heart is. Even Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz says a magic spell to take her home. As she clicks her ruby red shoes together she says "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home." Home can mean numerous things to everyone. For others, home isn't a place; it's a feeling. Home can be a starting place for people to share and start new hopes, dreams, love, and lives together.
Many travel a far to find what they are looking for only to return home to find it. Wherever we call home, we can always find peace, hope, and love there. Sometimes it's a place that our feet will leave. We find ourselves leaving to travel afar to find the dreams and aspirations we are looking for. Sometimes we can find our home there, but regardless home is wherever our heart leads us to be.
Perhaps our home changes. Perhaps it follows us wherever we go. I remember as a little child that home always meant to be with my family, now I call college my home as it is a new step in my journey. I hope to call my future home a place that my family and I can build together.
But every home needs a strong foundation. Where we build that foundation can depend on how strong the ground beneath us. There was once a man who built his house on the sand. The other built his on a rock. Both were beautiful houses that both called home. But one night a storm came and the winds blew. The ocean washed the the house on the sand away. But the house built on the rock stayed firm during the storm because of its foundation. This particular analogy is in the Bible. There are many more that refer to a strong foundation needed in a home. The three little pigs is a great example of how homes can be shared and with a foundation that is strong, it can never be broken down.
The ache in home lives in all of us. Whether we have found where that is or not. It's a place that we shouldn't be questioned and a place we should feel safe. The magical thing about home is that it can feel good to leave it. You are adventuring out on your own and want to see where this world takes you in life. It feels even better to return home though. Wherever we find that place to be.
Our hearts never truly leave home. No matter where we call home to be. Love can make a house a home. All we have to do is find where that love is. Whether we find it on our own journey or whether it comes to us in ways we never would have expected.
And this is where our story ends for the best journey can take you home. For there simply is no place like home.
