As a kid Hugo Izquierdo fell in love with the art of pizza. When Hugo lived in San Diego as a kid he would frequently visit Woodstock pizza in San Diego where his love of pizza was cultivated. He recalls a memory from when he was 8 years old of when he and his dad took a trip to Woodstock driving from L.A. to San Diego to unfortunately to find a closed pizza joint. He was crushed and the thing Hugo remembers most from that experience is thinking that if he had his own pizza place this wouldn't have been an issue. In 2015, his dream came true.

Hugo Izquierdo always had the idea of the restaurant in the back of his mind growing up and into his adult years. His pizza chef voice got stronger and in his mid 20's he began his recipes and business plan. Working as a property manager he took part time jobs with different pizza joints in L.A. to get his hands dirty. After years of perfecting his unique tasting pizza Blazing Stone Pizza was born.

Blazing Stone Pizza carries your standard pepperoni and Hawaiian pizza. Luckily, they don't stop there. They take pizza places rarely seen.

Here is an example of 2 pizzas in 1. To the left you have the BBQ Chicken Pizza, and to the right is the Blazing Chicken Pizza.

It all begins with the dough. Never frozen. Always fresh. There are few stages to the dough Hugo makes. First, mixing the dough. Second, the fermentation process. And third, kneeding the dough. A process which takes about 11 hours. Lastly it is made in small batches to ensure quality. Along with that the dough process is repeated 4-5 times a week.

Hugo says a lot of pizza joints will compromise flavor by buying pre-made dough to cut labor cost and make things easier. Hugo refuses to cut taste even a little to save money. Hugo puts his heart out for the sake of bringing quality pizza to the city of El Sereno and the Los Angeles foodies who desire a better tasting pizza.

The pizza is not where it stops. Blazing Stone carries a great line of sandwiches of meats cooked in house and vegetables always cut fresh. Along with salads for all walks of life.

Hugo says through making the pizza higher quality the business receives lower income but the loss is all worth the product. Hugo says he is beyond happy to have a place for families to enjoy and that makes his dream feel even more accomplished.

If in the L.A. area or the city of El Sereno this is a place you cannot miss out on.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
