Back in September Fox introduced a brand new TV show entitled Pitch. From the moment I heard about this show and immediately knew it was something I wanted to watch. It was all my childhood dreams being put on the silver screen.
For those of you haven't seen the show let me give you a little background. Pitch is based around a character named Ginny Baker. The show follows Ginny as she makes her Major League Baseball debut as a pitcher for the San Diego Padres. Ginny faces difficulties being the first woman accepted into the league and the show outlines how she overcomes them.
One the best part of the show is the cast. When watching the show many of the actors and actresses are already recognizable television stars. From Saved by the Bells' Paul-Mark Gosselarr to Heroes' Ali Larter and Drake & Josh's Josh Peck to One Tree Hill's Tyler Hilton. Seeing some of my favorite actors and actresses brings me back to my childhood.
The big pull away from the show is the message it sends. It's about overcoming obstacles. It's about showing the world that if you have the passion and the drive you can do anything. I am a woman who wants to be involved in the sports industry and right now you don't see many women out there participating in professional leagues. This shows that there is a chance for me just as there was for Ginny Baker.
During the opening to this show is someone simply singing "have no fear" which I feel is a very powerful message. In life we face many challenges and opportunities however if we are to afraid face these things then how are we ever expected to move forward and beat expectations? Ginny had no fear when tackling an all male sport. The only way to fail is if you never try, and if you never try how can you ever be anything great.
Once the show gets past the initial concept of acceptance, It becomes about comradery. It's about looking for one another. In one particular episode Ginny has nude photos leaked after hacker breaks into her ex-boyfriends computer. The team in order to combat against this hacker decide to do a nude shoot with Ginny to show none of them have anything to hide and they stand with her. My explaination doesn't do the episode justice but it's great example of her finally being accepted having the support of the team.
Overall, this is a great show. The concept of the show and the cast bring you in but then you get hooked in Ginny's character and her story. A lot of people can relate to her feelings of uncertainty and drive to prove that she deserves to be there. This show is a lot like being a kid in a new school and trying to fit in only the stakes are higher.
