Most of us have heard the song "Piece by Piece" by Kelly Clarkson. If not, the link is at the bottom of this article. This week I have been listening to that song on repeat and it really got me thinking. Although this song is about having daddy issues, I took something else from it.
I have one of the best dads in the world. So when I listen to this song, I don't hear "piece by piece he restored my faith". Instead, I hear "piece by piece He restored my faith".
He restored my faith -- He meaning Jesus.
As a college student surrounded by Anthropology classes and the belief of evolution, it can be hard to keep faith. It's easy to lose faith when everything is going wrong in your life. When the endless hours of studying results in a failing test grade, when that fear of not knowing exactly what you want out of life creeps in- believe me, we have all been there. Just sitting there wondering if God even cares or even hears you.
Sometimes giving up just seems like the only option right? Wrong. You do everything for a purpose. He has you in certain stages of life for a purpose. I know it may not seem like that at the moment, but believe me, His plans never fall through.
1. Don't forget to pray.
Often times I will get so busy and stressed out that I'll momentarily forget that I can seek help from the one who has it all under control. So don't forget to pray often. Not over the things that you want, or the things that you need. Remember to thank Him and actually talk to Him. He isn't a wishing bank.
2. Be grateful and content.
Just remember that whatever is going wrong in your life, someone else has it much worse. Be thankful for the little things. Be content for what He has already given you and know that there is more to come.
3. Surround yourself with Christ-like people.
As a college student, I know how hard it is to find other Christians. But get involved with a church, bible study, small group, etc. When we fight battles we don't fight them alone. Surround yourself with the right kind of people.
4. Make time for the bible.
You have time. If not, make time. Get one of those once-a-day devotionals and read it whenever you can. 5 minutes dedicated to spending time with the Lord is better than none. You feel?
Just don't ever lose your faith in Him. He will never leave you or forsake you. He is your biggest cheerleader. He's rooting for you, even though it may not seem like it.
Piece by piece He'll restore your faith. You'll see. You just have to meet Him halfway, because He is always reaching out for you. And remember to always be inspiring.
