Before we begin, you may be asking yourself: What makes Michael an expert? What a good question. You’re so inquisitive! I have spent many a night swiping on Tinder or chatting it up on OkCupid. This may be embarrassing to say, but I have been quite the avid user of both of these sites for three years. I’d understand if your initial thought is: Wow, you’ve been on for that long and still no luck? Why should I listen to you? To retort, I shall politely request of you to shut up. The reason why I haven’t found any luck is because I just haven’t found the right guy. Maybe I should date myself. I would be the perfect couple!

But enough about me, you’ve clicked on this article for some helpful tips on online dating. By the end of this article, you will be an expert on how to pick the right profile pic.

Smile! No really, smile. Too often I see picture after picture of serious faces. I hate to quote the Joker, but “Why so serious?” Shouldn’t you be welcoming and inviting? A second tip is to try not have only selfies. It’s great that you have seven consecutive pictures of you in the same pose, but I want to see who you hang out with. How tall are you among your friends?

For all of you visual learners, I have included some examples of unsuccessful photos.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane! Wait, no that’s definitely a bird. I don’t know about you, but I’m not interested in dating a bird. Especially if he’s 19. They get pretty broody at that age. Plus, who names their bird Lucas? Am I right?!?

Ok, if you want to stand out from the crowd this is not the photo for you. Doesn’t he look great? No, I’m actually asking you. I have no idea which one he is. And to make matters worse, this was his only photo. But who am I to judge? I still swiped right!

Now that we’ve seen how we shouldn’t pick photos, let us view arguably the best profile ever.

Woah, that’s me! How did that get there? Anyhoo, my profile pic is clearly the best because there is some tolerable eye contact, it has warm and inviting colors and a beautiful welcoming smile!

If this picture doesn’t tickle your fancy (probably because you are weird) I suggest you look over some other great pictures of myself. Yes, I AM practically a model! Each picture is labeled with a fun tip or theme to include in your profiles.

Location, location, location!

My last piece of advice is: When in doubt, be more like ME!

Also, tell all of your friends about me because I am desperately single!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
