Welcome to another issue of The Odyssey!  Here at Purdue we are lucky to have hundreds of honorable guest speakers from around the world sit down with our student organizations and share their experiences and insight. 

Coming up on November 20th the Purdue Institute of Civic Communication will be hosting a political discussion/debate in the PMU South Ballroom from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The discussion will feature Michael Steele and Howard Dean, and will be moderated by Steve Scully.

The Purdue Institute for Civic Communication (PICC) offers students a chance to “become better citizens and informed contributors to democracy”. The organization is a “nonpartisan initiative for applied and experiential learning at Purdue University, made possible by the Bill Daniels Fund of Denver and a partnership with C-SPAN, the Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network”. Here’s a little more information about each of the speakers attending the discussion: 

Michael Steele is an American politician and MSNBC political analyst as of May 2011. Steele served as the first African-American chairman of the Republican National Committee 
(RNC) from January 2009 until January 2011 

Howard Dean is an American former politician who served as the 79th Governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2003 and Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2005 to 2009. Dean was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the U.S. Presidential Election, 2004. 

Steve Scully is a senior executive producer and political editor for the C-SPAN television network. He is also a host of its morning call-in show, Washington Journal. Scully served as president of the White House Correspondents' Association from 2006 to 2007.
