What an amazing city.

My Trip To Philadelphia Over The Holidays
Krista Morrison

Last weekend, I got to experience Philadelphia for the first time. My family decided to take a short tip after my semester was over. This is a little bit about the trip on what I saw and how I thought of everything.

To start off, we left home later on Friday night and got there around 9 at night. We had dinner at one of the many places to get a cheesesteak. I'm my opinion it was alright but nothing too special and I'm not sure why everyone talks about them so much, when we finally got to where we're staying, I looked out the window and could see the building where the steps that were in Rocky were located.

On Saturday morning, there was a lot of ice, but the roads were well covered. Took an uber over to independence hall and the liberty bell. First we saw the liberty bell and it was a pretty cool thing to see. I am a huge history buff so getting to see a large piece of history was pretty amazing. Indipendence hall was beautiful, and the tour guides were very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you had about anything. Indipendence hall had been split up into several different sections, one which had held the Supreme Court and was styled like it would have been back in the day. The other part was where the Decleration of Indioendence was formed and signed, and the constitution was signed It was also set up like it would have been back then. It was a pretty amazing sight to see.

The next stop was the reading market. For those of you that are familiar with the North Market in columbus, this is similar to that. There were so many different places to eat with a wide variety of types of food. Thee were alose a lot of people selling candy, sweets, meat, fish, and various items. We picked up some BBQ bacon that turned out to be amazing.

Then, we went to the Wanamaker building where the largest pipe organ is at. The store is a Macy's that puts on a Christmas light show and concert with the pipe organ. The organ has roughly 28,000 pipes. It was pretty impressive to see someone play and hear the sound that comes out. Pipe organs sound amazing when played right, and this one was definitely played right.

After being out for most of the day, we went back to where we were staying and rested for a little while. After resting, we decided to go see the steps where part of Rocky was filmed. The steps were icy so no one was trying to run up them like the movie. The view of Philadelphia was amazing at the top of the steps, you could see right into downtown. For dinner we decided to go to Angelinos. It is a small Italian restaurant and has amazing food. I was surprised the place wasn't busier.

Overall the first time I was in Philadelphia was a pretty good one. I wish we would have gotten to stay longer and explore more, but the weather kind of stopped that, we had to get back across the mountains before the rain turned into freezing rain.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
