Phi Mu For Life

The chapter that changed my life

Phi Mu For Life

Phi Mu -- one of the best things to ever happen to me. My sorority has been nothing but a positive aspect in my life, after the first day of joining. Phi Mu has made me grow up, transformed me into a mature, selfless woman, and a leader. Phi Mu, I will be forever thankful to you. Here are the reasons why.

1. Kept my grades up.

Phi Mu has motivated me to maintain at least a 2.75 GPA throughout my years after joining. If I fell below this GPA, I was no longer in good standings and my privileges in the house would be taken away. In our house, it is grades first, fun second. Without a good GPA you will be encouraged to perform study hours weekly and stay away from all social events until you get above the house GPA.

2. Selflessness.

Phi Mu has taught me selflessness. Most of this is because of our philanthropy; Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. I was the philanthropy chair last semester and planned a visit to our local CMN Hospital. Visiting with the children and families there changed my aspect on life. This experience encouraged me to put others first, somebody always has it worse.

3. Love.

On of Phi Mu's three ideals; love. My fellow sisters taught me this through many different acts of love throughout my years in the house. My sisters stood up for me in tough situations, put me before themselves, lend me their shoulder to cry on, and wiped my tears.

4. Experiences it gave me.

Phi Mu has offered me experiences I never would have gotten if I did not join a house. Phi Mu gave me the opportunity to visit CMN Hospitals, take leadership roles, and even visit Atlanta, Georgia; to name a few specific examples. Phi Mu headquarters flew me to Atlanta to a conference where I was able to make connections with hundreds of other Phi Mu's and learn even more about being a powerful leader.

5. Self-Love.

My sisters taught me to love myself. I had very low self-esteem before joining Phi Mu. My sisters never tore me down, only brought me up. They showed me different reasons to love myself. Being around women who only bring each other up was something new to me.

6. Best Friends.

Phi Mu has given me the best of friends. This is my fourth college over a five year span and I never was fortunate enough to have friends like I found in Phi Mu here in Bethany. These girls are always there for me, they would drop whatever they were doing if I was going through something difficult to comfort me; and I would do the same for them. They are amazing women, I can't wait to keep in contact and see how far they go in life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
