When you go out to eat at a restaurant there’s a few things one should consider other than the fact that they’re hungry.
First of all, you need to not be in such a rush. If you’re planning to dine in, you should probably take into consideration just how long you may be spending. If you think that you need to be in and out in 15 minutes, go to a fast food restaurant. When you go to a sit down restaurant it is completely unreasonable to expect to be out of there in at least a half hour.
We get it you’re hungry. As are the 5-10 other people I’m also serving around the same time I greeted your family. Do you think that by giving me attitude that I will serve you any better? Honestly, I cannot stand when people do this. I’m pretty sure any server is trying their best to serve the tables they are given the best they can in the shortest manner of time. Please be patient and courteous of others.
“My food isn’t done!” “This food is awful!” “Are you serious? My steak isn’t cooked correctly!” PLEASE DO NOT YELL AT YOUR SERVER ABOUT YOUR FOOD. The server did not make your food. She/he was probably picking up food for other tables as well as yours, plus there’s 5-6 other people trying to get their hot foods out quickly as well, so you don’t complain your food is cold. I get it, you're upset that your food isn’t what you expected, please calmly tell your server, it’s not her fault. If you have a problem, that needs handled, and you wish to express your negative opinion, find the manager, because most likely that’s who your server will go to anyways.
LASTLY IF YOU CANNOT TIP AT LEAST 10%, YOU SHOULDN’T BE EATING OUT. Most servers most around $2 an hour. Their paychecks total to about, maybe $10, after taxes, if you’re lucky. Tips are what servers rely on for their “salary.” It’s common courtesy to tip AT LEAST 10 percent, even if the service wasn’t the greatest. Nothing irks me more than taking a book back with a tip line empty or $2 off of 3 people. People should just really think about how little servers do make, they have bills and necessities just like everyone else. We just lack that beefy paycheck most people get weekly. We rely solely on tips. Just think about that the next time you leave a crappy tip.
Now, that I have ranted about the losey parts over being a server. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it. There’s nothing I’d rather do as a teenager. When the people are kind, I can communicate better, and provide a better experience. That’s what I enjoy most about being a waitress, providing the best I can, and to see my tables leave with a smile.
