9 Things I Have To Thank My Roommate For

It's been hard, but we made it.

9 Things I Have To Thank My Roommate For
Sharlene Paolino

With the semester coming to an end, a sigh of relief and even tears of joy are expressed by all college students across the nation. We can all agree that it hasn't been a straight easy road. College is so far off from the ones you see in movies. Better yet, college has been a very challenging experience, with so many bumps in the road to the point where you contemplate your life choices ... if college really is your thing.

I must say college is hard, and I wouldn't be able to survive this whole semester without my very best friends and especially my roommate ... I mean I live with her. Honestly, living with someone can be complicated. Some change their roommate after a couple weeks at the beginning of the semester, and some get along perfectly. Now I'm going to be realistic, it's never going to be easy, but I was lucky to have my roommate because we built a bond that we will remember and laugh about next year and maybe in the future when we're old and wrinkly. With all things aside, we did it, we made it through our first year together and I just want to take the time to say thank you:

1. For being an amazing cheerleader for every little thing that I do.

For every exam that I have, you never doubted my abilities of passing. Even though I tend to freak out and cry because of how stressed I am with all of the things I have to do on top of having to study, you never fail at being positive and telling me that I can do it.

2. For eating ice cream with me when I should be studying.

Let's just drop everything and walk to the POD and buy ourselves those creamy tasty treats. You can never go wrong with some Ben & Jerry's ice cream in the middle of the night after a long day.

3. For listening to me when I need to vent.

Whether it be about boys and how incredibly frustrating they are, or maybe an unreasonable professor that rained on my parade, or just friends to say the least; you were always on my side. However, you always tell me the honest truth so most of the time despite my endless irrational emotions ... you were my voice of reason.

4. For eating meals with me so I don't have to sit alone in the Cafeteria.

It's going to be inevitable to have to eat alone in the cafe and that's just the reality of things. But I know most of the time when I do text you if you wanted to grab food, you were always down unless you had a class or something important to do.

5. For waking me up.

Let's be real, I know you were annoyed of the sound of my alarm clock, and I know you just woke me up so I can turn the stupid thing off. However, without you, I would've slept right through it and missed all of my classes that day.

6. For doing my makeup.

I was blessed to have a roommate that's amazing at doing her makeup. Now I have zero knowledge in the world of makeup. I didn't even know that there was such thing as "contouring". Now that right there is talent, so thank you for saving me that one night during Halloween weekend when I had no idea how I was gonna do my makeup.

7. For laughing at my jokes.

I know I have the tendency to be a little nutty when I have had a long day, but you never fail to laugh at my jokes (no matter how nutty it is) whenever I crack them.

8. For spending the night with me and watching Netflix.

You preferred staying in with me and watching Netflix, rather than going out and possibly suffer from a really bad hangover. But there's just an odd satisfying feeling of curling up in the comfort of your own bed and just relax.

9. For being a friend.

Coming in as a freshman, in a whole different setting from high school has been quite overwhelming. But you were one of the few people who I can always confide in whenever I needed someone.

If you think about it, living with someone can be fun, but it's not always going to be rainbows and unicorns. There were days where we barely even said a word to each other because we all have different lives. But I must say we survived and we did it. There's no doubt that we will continue to be friends for the rest of our lives and I will cherish those little memories as this chapter comes to a close. Thank you so much, roomie. Now let's enjoy our summer, and we'll see each other soon!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
