To The Person Sitting Next To Me In Class

You may not know my name, but I don't know yours, so it's OK.

Hey there!

We've been sitting next to each other for about 15 weeks now. We usually say hi, ask how each other are, talk about class and ask what we missed in class if we weren't there one day. We usually have some good conversations, and I look forward to seeing you when I get to class. You keep me company sometimes. Although we don't usually have in-depth conversations, I still consider you a friend. There's a good chance we have worked in a group together whether it was in class or out of class.

Regardless of how much contact we have had, I have no idea what your name is. When we are supposed to write our names on a piece of paper for an assignment, I usually just hand you the paper and let you write it yourself. Like an idiot, I never check to see what it is. We probably have other classes together, too, especially if we have the same major.

If I have your number, you're probably in my phone as "boy/girl from whatever class we have together." I know that's kind of rude, but I think it is more rude to ask you what you're name is after we have been sitting next to each other for months now. I mean, which would you prefer? I don't know how I missed your name in the first place, but I'm sorry. I just forgot.

When I see you outside of class whether it is at a party or just around campus, I never know if I'm supposed to say hi or talk to you like we do in class. Sometimes we pass each other like we have no idea who the other one is, and other times we stop and have a small conversation. It is always hit or miss, and sometimes, I don't know how to act. I don't know if I'm supposed to or not, but we go back to class acting like it never happened. I guess it's fine? I'm not really sure how it works.

If you don't know my name either, that's fine. I mean, I don't know yours either, so why would I be mad? I want to say thank you for being such a good classmate and friend while we are in class. You're a big help when I miss class or I'm not paying attention. I know I can rely on you when I miss or don't understand something. Also, don't be afraid to say hi to me when we are anywhere not in the classroom.

Your classmate,

Stephanie (there, now you know my name).

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
