Knowing more than one language has several obvious benefits like being more marketable or helping someone interpret. However, many people don't realize that knowing several languages can give one different perspective on how he or she views the world. Being able to speak more than one language also makes you more culturally educated. Here are some perks of being a multilingual :

1. Travel

When you are traveling to a non-English speaking country, chances are, the only places who can get away without being able to have a basic conversation in that country's language are the official centers and airports. If you are going to the store or to the barber for a haircut, it would be really convenient if you can communicate in the language the native speakers speak in.

2. More movies to watch

Foreign films are often very meaningful. Many deal with historical events while some critique societal relations. Watching with subtitles is doable; however, understanding the language makes watching such movies easier since you don't have to take your attention away from the actors and read the bottom of your screen.

3. More music

While you can still enjoy foreign music without having knowledge of the language, understanding the language makes it even more exciting because songs often teach us about the society in which they are produced.

4. Being able to experience more cultures

You can eat new types of food. You can try on different clothes. You can become friends with someone from a foreign country and learn about their culture. You become so much more culturally educated.

5. Sets you apart on your resume

In this day and age, the market is becoming increasingly competitive. Employers look for something unique in each candidate's resume. Knowing a foreign language is a great asset that sets you apart.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
