Like most college students, I'm back to sleeping in my childhood bedroom for the summer. Every Summer when I return home, it takes a few weeks to readjust to life back in my hometown. I will say, there are some definite perks to being home for the Summer.
1. Free food.
Instead of having to make a grocery list each week and fend for myself, my mom shops for me! Even better yet, it's her debit card that money is deducted from, not mine. While I definitely love my independence that I have at school, it's kind of nice to not have to worry about paying for groceries.
2. Hometown friends.
I'm lucky to have made some really great friends in college that I hope are friends for life, but there is also some reassuring about coming home to a set of old friends that you've grown up with. It's so easy to fall into our old rhythm and habits when we're home every summer.
3. Restaurant choices.
I do love my college town and the quirks that it has, but I have to say it's nice to have so many Starbucks' around. I pass several on my way to work each morning, and it's comforting for me to see the green and white logo on a regular basis.
4. Raiding my mother's closet.
Okay, I know, what 20-something wears their mom's clothes? This one (and my sister.) For the first time, I'm working a 9-5 job, and I don't have the funds to buy an entirely new business casual wardrobe. She actually has cute stuff, I promise.
5. TV channels and a DVR.
My parents have a much better TV package than I do at school, and that includes a DVR. I can finally watch current TV shows (like the Bachelorette!) live and not have to worry about seeing spoilers before they were added to Hulu the next day.
I'm sure I'm not the only college student in this catch-22 about loving being home and simultaneously missing school, but I'll enjoy these perks while they last. Next summer I'll be a college graduate, and I'll have to actually adult! *scream face emoji*
