For those of you debating on taking all of your classes at the beginning of the day, go for it! See how you like it, let me know how much all the other freshmen who miss their parents and just got their new boat shoes dirty are doing...but for those of you who have learned a thing or two so far in college and are on the quest for the ultimate class schedule look no further. The key to the PERFECT SCHEDULE rests before you. Speaking of rest, that's the first step.
Step 1- Sleep. The first thing one has to take into account when making their schedule is sleep. SLEEP SLEEP and MORE SLEEP. After all, when life gives you lemons take a nap...see what happens, maybe when you wake up you'll have a lemon tree, or if not you'll still have lemons but now you'll be fully refreshed and clear-headed. Thus in order to allow for the perfect amount of sleep per capita per day do not take 8 AM's. I repeat do not take 8 AM's; the only people who will be awake other than you are your grandparents and satan, neither of which are preferable acquaintances when you are hungover at the crack of dawn on a Tuesday. Every year your school's innocent counselors will trick some incoming freshmen to just get their classes out of the way early so they can have the rest of the day for themselves...HAAA...good one! The only reason why you wouldn't find that funny is if you fell for it yourself...but don't fret that's what I'm here for. The trick to avoiding this brings me to my second step.
Step 2- Time management. No one wants to be the early bird and get stuck with a bunch of worms, that's such BS and we all know it, but concurrently if you think you're a night owl and will take four night classes a week good idea! Have fun sitting through three hours of a worn-out teacher, worn-out classroom, worn-out classmates for three hours. Also, every stoner ever has also had this idea...so lay off the grass and get back to the drawing board. But overall time management is key. No one wants to wake up too early and no one wants to watch the sun set along with their aspirations in a night class either, so use your head!
Step 3- Delineating Class Slots. Rocket Scientists have been researching for centuries on how to produce the perfect class schedule, but because I am currently a junior in college myself, as well as an aspiring senior I have perfected the class scheduling process through my own process of trial and error. Twice a week, pick two days where you can manage to wake up for the second-earliest time slot. These will be known as your long days...no one likes having long days, but hey everyone needs at least a couple so that they will have something to complain about. Then fill in the rest of your long days with two more classes following directly after the first, which will leave you with three classes for the day. Following typical college time slots, since you dodged your 8 AM wrench, your day will most likely begin around nine or nine-thirty, and last until around one or two. And everyone knows that if you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball, so lets keep the ball rolling and take a nap after class. Then you will still have some time left in your day to Netflix and chill, hopefully about four to five hours which is the median time frame with which most college students Netflix and chill. Then do homework for about 15-20 minutes before bed. Following this schedule if you are taking 5 classes a semester like most universities recommend because they like to watch us die slowly and painfully, then you will have 3 days of the school week left to fill in just two classes. Despite bombing calc with flying colors, I can still come to the final answer that those are pretty good numbers.
Now that you have the outline for your perfect schedule there is only one more step to perfecting your ultimate schedule, and it's pretty simple yet many college students just like you and I have a great deal of trouble with this last part.
Step 4- Avoid Procrastination. Sure you are probably saying how can the guy who told me to nap three times a day, and had to rest his eyes for thirty minutes in the middle of writing this article tell me not to be lazy...well it's simple don't do it! Anyone can be lazy and still be successful, but you have to plan your downtime accordingly. Sure C's get degrees, but they don't get you things that really matter like money, success, happiness, or most importantly the attention of the pretty girl sitting next to you who says she, "Just can't even?!?" to everything. Everyone knows procrastination is a gateway drug to opening and closing a drive-thru window a hundred times a day, and asking your mom if she can pick you up some more velveeta on her way home for the second time this week. In order to properly enjoy and take advantage of your new perfect schedule, all you have to do is focus, tell yourself you, "Can even," and avoid procrastination at all costs.
So get out there and enjoy your new perfect schedule. Use it wisely and who knows, if you can follow these simple steps I have laid out for you close enough, maybe they won't be the only things getting "lucky" this year.
