For People Who Work All Summer
Odyssey

When you think of summer, you probably think of sunny, lazy days and long, adventurous nights. You think of vacations and great nights with your friends. And if you're anything like me, you think about work...

...Because that's what you're doing most of your summer vacation (or at least it feels like it). Although you're missing out on lots of good times, you know you have to make as much money as possible to make up for the damage you did over the year, and to have some before you go back to school to do even more damage.

Here are some thoughts you will understand if you're always working.

1. You're always missing out on hanging out with your friends.

Excited to go see a movie with everyone? Dying to go to the zoo with all your friends? Want to spend an hour at lunch with your crew? Too bad, you can't. You have to work.

2. You feel like you're not even experiencing summer because you're always at work.

Where are those "wild summer nights" everyone is talking about? Beach days? Road trips? Is this even summer?

3. You feel like you're watching everyone else have fun.

Don't they have work? How do they have the time? This is unfair!

4. Speaking of everyone else, you're wondering how everyone is traveling the world when you feel guilty when you buy a smoothie.

I thought we were all broke college kids. I thought we were in this together.

5. You're really starting to understand all those songs about work.

You and me both, Rihanna.

6. Your new favorite day of the week is the one you get paid.

7. Your work place is starting to feel like a second home because you're always there.

You might as well move in at this point.

8. You start getting really close with your co-workers.

Like really close. Like is-there-something-stuck-in-my-teeth close.

9. You're always tired.

Whether you're lifeguarding out in the sun all day or waiting tables all evening, you feel exhausted once your shift is over.

10. You realize you have to work for the rest of your life, and it freaks you out a little.

This isn't just a summer gig, or a one time thing. This is the beginning of many years of hard labor.

11. You start feeling really nostalgic for childhood.

Remember when we didn't have to work? When taxes weren't a thing to us? When we didn't have to pay for textbooks? Ah, the good old days.

12. By the end of the summer, you feel pretty proud of all the skills you've mastered throughout the season.

You know how to dip the perfect ice cream cone. You can check the chlorine levels in any pool on any day. You are a champion of minimum-wage jobs.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
