As you go through your Thanksgiving Day, there are many emotions that you experience. You may feel overwhelmed with all of the different families that you will visit with, or just overwhelmed with the amount of food you will be eating. Make it your priority to slow down and simply say thank you.
1. Thank you Jesus
The first thing you should do is say thank you to the Lord for this beautiful life that we get to experience. It is easy to get caught up in our busy day and forget to thank him for what we have. All in all, we wouldn't have the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families if it weren't for his wonderful grace.
2. Thank you Mom and Dad
Having these individuals to look up to for encouragement and forever love is something to be thankful for. They raised you up and taught you things that you couldn't learn from anyone else. Maybe you live hours away from each other, don't let the day slip away before you can thank them. Call them on the telephone, even shoot them a text. Even if you don't have a relationship with your parents, there is someone in your life that has filled the shoes of this role in your life, thank them.
3. Thank you Grandfather and Grandmother
These are the people that started your family. Even if your parent was an only child, it is all because of them that you are alive and get to experience things in life. Take a moment and really think about what you are most thankful for in your relationship. Maybe it is quirky jokes, delicious Sunday evening dinners, or simply the love they have to share. The most prized possession a grandparent has is their babies so don't forget to thank them.
4. Thank you to other relatives
Whether it be your aunt and uncle or cousins, say thank you. These are the people that you can look to for family guidance and wisdom. You can share old family photos with them as you slightly remember what you were even doing in them. They can tell you stories from when you were younger and how you acted and what life was like at that point. It is amazing to sit back and relax as you hear old family stories.
5. Thank you to close friends
These are the people that have your back through the thick and thin, the fun times, and the hard times. Thank them for understanding you when you get mad at little things but don't take it too serious because they know you're just ranting and mean nothing by it. Thank them for laughing at your jokes that most of the times aren't even funny. Thank them for stepping up and filling the shoes of a family member, one that you couldn't do it without.
