20 Types Of People You Have Definitely Met And Maybe Napped With In College

Freshman year has been the craziest, yet the most rewarding, year of my life. It has been a year where I have lost and made countless friends. It has been a year where I have seen who I am compatible with despite our differences.

Every person I have met, although very different than me, has changed my perspective and taught me new lessons, whether they were good or bad. So here is to my first year and the 20 types of people you are bound to meet in college.

1. The Athlete

One of the first types of people I have come across in college was the "jock." You know, the kid in high school who slept through every class and only stood out on the football field? Yeah, they follow you into college too.

2. The Party Animal

The type that goes out any night they can, any day they can for that matter. You'll spot them walking to class in sweatpants and sunglasses, clutching their coffee on the days after their wild nights out. Somehow every night they still manage to put on their best party attire anyways and do it all again.

3. The Campus Celebrity

This person literally does everything. They are in over four clubs, have a bunch of leadership positions and are everything you wish you were. They are smart, attractive, outgoing-probably your girl crush or guy crush. Everyone knows who they are, and you're lucky if they know you.

4. The Stoner

Those kids who never seem fully awake. Those kids who are always talking about how hungry they are. Those kids who always just want to smoke some weed. You're pretty sure you've never seen them totally sober... but they're always good to have around, especially if you want to have a good life or philosophical talk.

5. The Gym Rat

We all know that one person who spends every waking second of their free time in the weight room at the gym. This person only drinks protein shakes. This person is jacked and could probably kill you with one punch. Good person to have around if you want to get motivated... or just get super jealous of their Michelle Obama arms.

6. That Person Who Always Goes Home

This person did not do as well with the high school to college transition as your other friends. They can be found at home most weekends or saying they miss their mom any chance they get. They teach you to keep an open mind but to also call your mom every week too.

7. The Theatre Kid

They invite you to every show. Every improv night. Every musical. They are talented and dedicated and totally full of themselves at times. They teach you to pursue your passion and to never let anyone crush your dreams.

8. The Good Girl Gone Bad

This person was a goodie-goodie in high school. Probably had a nice, small group of friends, had a stellar GPA and never got in trouble. They were kept on a short leash throughout high school and went a little wild when mommy and daddy weren't around.

9. The Most Attractive Human You Have Ever Seen

Now I don't know about the rest of you guys but I have seen some FINE people on campus. My girlfriends and I all call the guys we are interested in "the most beautiful boys in the entire world." They are just so... dreamy. And yes, dressing up for a class is totally worth it sometimes if you know you're going to see your crush there.

10. The Person Who Peaked In High School

This person gets nostalgic when the new senior class goes to prom, their team wins a championship game and when they see their ex who is a senior having the time of their life. They talk about their hometown constantly. They teach you not to get stuck in the past, but maybe you should give your high school friends a call.

11. The Type-A Student

You have seen them running to class. You have seen them spend over a hundred hours in the library. They have stayed after class because they cannot settle for anything less than an A. You love to hate them with their color-coded notebook and MacBook Pro, but you have to admit you love having someone so eager to help you or ask for extra credit.

12. The Rich Kid

Money is not a problem for these guys. You'll know when you see one of them on campus because they will be rolling up in a new car, with their new watch and their new sunglasses. You know they don't work, but they don't have to. Sometimes you get a bit jealous of their lavish lifestyle, but at least it makes you want to work harder. Or at the very least makes you want to have them pay for Dominos.

13. The Undeclared One

As a freshman, this person was undeclared for a major. Each week they are thinking something new. Maybe they will major in chemistry, next week it will be psychology, after that it might be business or communications.

14. The Slacker

This person concerns you a bit. You wonder how they are managing to stay in school when all they do is sleep, eat and never show up to class. They work in mysterious ways, my friends, somehow they stick around for four years. Not the best person to spend time with, awesome person to take a nap with 10/10.

15. The Professional

These are the future doctors, lawyers and pharmacists of the world. They are driven, they are neurotic and always talking about their job and internship opportunities. They are always frantically motivated and will talk to anyone that will listen about their resume or LinkedIn. This person is awesome for some career encouragement.

16. The Person Who Seems Like They Have Their Life Together

This person will make you question whether you’re doing enough or if you are spending too much time taking naps with the slacker. These people are involved, motivated and seem WIRED all the time. You realize they aren't so perfect when you see Betty throwing up in the bathtub at the house party after her long day of being President of whatever club and maintaining her 4.0 GPA.

17. Your New Best Friend

When you go to college, chances are that you went to a different place than your best friend from high school. You somehow will find someone you just instantly click with no matter what types of people you both are. You spend all your time with this person going to the dining hall, scrolling through Twitter or watching every season of "Jersey Shore" together.

18. The MOM friend

There is always that one person who is the mom of their friend group. They hold your hair back when you throw up, clean said throw up, your back, are your shoulder to cry on and are your makeshift mom while yours is away. They keep all the keys, phones and other important things when the group goes out safe and more importantly they keep YOU safe.

19. The Genius

There are just some people with big ol' brains. You will realize when you make it into college that the whole time you thought you were the genius, all these kids were too. Now you are average, and these smarties are THRIVING. They are kids who have not once got below a 100 percent or an A on any of their assignments. They are the kids who can find a mistake in any of their lectures. Befriend these people, especially when you are barely scraping by in your organic chemistry class. Thank me later.

20. Your Roommate

Here they are. The person you have spent this entire year with. You guys have learned each other's secrets, know who the messy one is, know their class schedule and just how long they like to heat up their mac and cheese for. If you weren't as lucky as me, you found someone you absolutely despise and switched rooms. In any case, a roommate is someone you will never forget during your college experience.

College is a crazy time. Meet these crazy people. Live it up your first year and every year after the fact!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
