As a current college student, waitressing is the best form of work that will bend and twist to my scheduling needs. I have been a waitress at O'Charley's for almost three months now and it has been a crazy journey. Here are some of the things that I have encountered during my short beginning.
1.Those who don't tip.
First off, I understand if you are not the wealthiest person in the world. However, I have just busted my butt for you, and yet you leave me nothing.
2. The people who need something every two seconds.
When I ask if there is anything else I can get for you, I really only mean it the first two times. Trip number three is pushing it; I have other tables too you know.
3. The attention hogs.
One time I had a table of three that were so talkative that they were screaming at me while I was trying to take another table's order! I don't mind socializing with you for a few minutes in between my rounds, but I am still working and don't have time to sit down and chat the whole night.
4. The old men who hit on me.
There have been several attempts in this department. Personally, I laugh and think it's funny and the most awkward situation in the world. All of my co-workers suggest for me to flirt along and use it to my benefit, but I cannot get past the creepiness of it all.
5.Tattle-tale tables.
Thank you for going to my manager before asking me to solve the problem first. I have no problem trying to help fix the situation, but you have to tell me about it first.
6. The impatient guests.
I understand you want your rolls. Please bare with me when we are running low and I tell you everyone is waiting on them as well as you. I will try my best to get them to you when I can. The same with your soup, salad, and entree. Enjoy the conversations you have with your friends and family. Sip on your beverage and relax. I will take care of the rest.
7. The Jokesters.
Thank you for making my night go a little bit smoother with your jokes! Sometimes all I need is one table to make my day and the rest of the night will be A-Okay.
8. Tables with kids.
Yes, your child is adorable. What is not adorable is the mess that you have left behind for me to clean up including mashed up food in the carpet, shredded napkins, piles of salt and pepper on the table and more.
9. The kitchen staff.
These guys are so sweet; they will do anything for me when I ask-- "anything for you Victoria."
10. My co-workers/managers.
It is much more enjoyable when you have a workforce where everyone gets along. On slow nights, there is time to laugh with each other in between checking on our tables. You realize that they are your family and we work as a team.
