Another "Peaceful Protest": Charlotte
the millennium report

Charlotte North Carolina. Another hot bed of riots, protests and general disorderly conduct by citizens. How many times are we going to let something like this happen. It is sad that we as people have steeped this low in just a year. There are bad cops. There are poorly trained ones and ones who a good people but are not cut out for it. It is like any other job not everyone can do the job well.

On thing is for sure Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would not stand for this protest. He would not condone breaking into property, destroying and looting. He would not preach to kill officers he would not say anything that has been said. I recently saw a video of black protester interacting with a racist white cop in the 1960's in the south. Besides the point how disgusted the officer was and inhuman he was. But the black man was polite, calm and respectful. He said I will pray for you. Where has that gone? That kind of protest that shows more restrain, maturity then one can do. Unlike Chicago and the famous stare down.

Something is just off. I have seen memes and post saying whites want us to protest a certain way etc but look at the difference

There is no screaming, staring or yelling. Just silent gathering. Now there was fighting, finger pointing even the dogs came out, but they still marched they did not want to harm as much as they did. And in the end they got what was they were deprived. The whole country understands what you want, many have not lived in poverty, many have not been stopped and frisked for living in Compton, Richmond, Detriot, Harlem, Baltimore, or Missouri.

I believe it is not the white people who live in the suburbs fault for your poverty. I understand the struggle because my mother grew up in poverty in the Bronx. She told be stories of being on food stamps and how I should be humble for what we have as a family. It took my parents hard work to be where we are at. Is that a crime? Working hard to have a decent living to what you want? Is that drive really the inequality?

When a Police Officer punches out I bet when he or she is shopping you just see another person, another American getting food for his family, getting an oil change or even pumping gas. So are these people you have judge to be racist, gunning you down and committing crimes against people of color? What is the point to riot in the streets at night. Why is it once the National Guard is rolling you stop? Seems childish to stop when the more people are called in. Did the national guard ever stop MLK? No they did not, he still marched, peacefully, respectfully and full of maturity that made rest of America help him. Faces where not covered up, bombs, firecrackers, rocks where not thrown. Social justice was not at the hands of radicals and property was not destroyed in the way we have seen this past two years. Last time I have seen cars be put on fire before Ferguson was when a Canadian NHL team lost, I believe Vancouver. Yeah the Canadians....

But one thing needs to change. Who you want your change and be seen to the world and others. When you look back to you think you were successful in creating change or just adding more fuel to the fire of stereotypes, like "thugs from the hood?" Because you are helping yourself with these riots.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
