Oftentimes, we get distracted by the craziness of life. Whether we are busy with school or work or both, we seem to be rushing through our days to get from one place to another. We don't take the time to realize what is going on around us.
The idea of paying it forward is often expressed but not actually implemented in our daily lives. I started thinking a lot about paying it forward simply from my walk to class. I notice that every time I walk to class, whoever is in front of me always holds open the door for me, no matter if it is 9:39 and they are rushing to their 9:40 class. I thought about what a nice thing this is and how many small acts of kindness I observe daily.
I come across several people at work who say "keep the change, put it towards your college fund." They didn't have to do that, and being a change hoarder myself, I know how stingy some people can be.
People on the train often give up their seat for someone carrying a child or for someone who is elderly. There are tons of acts of kindness that we all observe daily. However, we simply smile at the act, and that is all. We need to be people of action.
When someone holds the door for you, hold the door for the person behind you. And when someone tells you to keep the change, maybe give it to that homeless person you see sitting by the Whole Foods.
Imagine how much of a difference we could make in the world if everyone partakes in this paying it forward? For every act of kindness you see, perform one. Lately the world has been seeming like such a dark place filled with violence. The power of kindness can transform the world for the better.
