As we get older and ever so busy with our lives, we tend to neglect or look over the people/ things that made us who we are, and will be there for us from our highest to lowest points in life; our parents. Whether your parents are blood or not, they're the ones who taught you life skills from riding a bike to paying bills on time.
Growing up, we've all at some point said, "I can't stand them" or even worse "I hate them". Yet, no matter what you do, they're always there for you. So show them how appreciative you are for them.
In my opinion "actions speak louder than words." Granted, saying I love you is very important and is another way to express how much they mean to you. But, calling them out of the blue and telling them about your hectic life is a way of showing you care. Or even making a birthday card rather than buying one is just a simple way of showing the time and effort you took just to wish them another year on this earth. Trust me, Parents love nothing more than homemade gifts, even if it's the weird looking blob you finger painted in Kindergarten.
As days go on, we only get older, not younger. Same applies with the ones we call mom and dad. While we try to ignore the facts of life, the day will come when they're not here anymore. Don't look back and wish you would have shown them how important they are, because by that time it'll sadly be too late.
Moving from home to college has taught me a few things. Cleaning is so much more than picking up clothes off my bedroom floor, the food pyramid turns upside down and two much freedom can get the best of ones rebelious self, but when things go wrong I've always been able to count on the two most important people in my life who have no other choice to be there for me. *insert me with another speeding ticket*
So instead of only texting them "I love you" after they send you a check for rent you dont have money for. Call them, and ask how they are simply doing. Parents may be our worst enemies sometimes, but no matter what, they'll always be our biggest fans and love us more than themselves at the end of the day. So, show them the same if not more.
I love you so much mom and dad, Talk to you soon.
