Panic! At The Disco Gets me through Life, And I'm Not Just Saying That

They say that music saves lives, and in my case, it's definitely the case with Panic! At The Disco.

OK, so you read the headline and you probably think this article is going to be another one of those cheesy "Music Saved My Life" articles. I'm going to try and not make that the case, but it must be said that I really love Panic! At The Disco.

Much like other people my age, I have loved this band since my middle school emo phase years in 2007-2008. You would think that after I grew out of my emo phase (let's be real, I didn't), I'd have stopped listening to them. Well, I kind of did...but only for a while.

On January 5, 2016, the band released their groundbreaking fifth studio album, "Death Of A Bachelor." After listening to samples of this album on Amazon before its release, I had low expectations, because I wasn't really impressed with "Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die."

One day, I had to clean my room and needed some music to play. I turned on Spotify and navigated to "Death Of A Bachelor." From the very first song, "Victorious," I was just hooked. Within what seemed like 5 minutes, the album was over by "Impossible Year." I was left speechless because of how much better it was than I expected!

So, it is safe to say that from this point forward, I decided to make this album an integral part of my college soundtrack. I listened to it while walking through campus. I listened to it while studying. I even listened to it in the bathtub after a long week of dealing with people. I grew to love each song more and more every time I played them all.

As a result of me liking this album so much, I decided to take a step back in time to revisit some of their discography. I played their second album, "Pretty. Odd.", from beginning to end and had to ask myself what I was missing this whole time, not even with this album but the band in general. I always knew I liked them, but not as much as I do now!

In the fall of 2017, I bought "Death Of A Bachelor" on vinyl at Urban Outfitters (ugh, I know). Though I didn't have my record player yet, this album would finally be the start of my long-desired vinyl collection. And in case you were wondering, I still default to this album to this day when I need something to play!

So, in a weird way, this band has inspired me so much that lately, I find myself taking on challenges, trying new things (something I was doing already), and truly living my best life unapologetically and with no regrets. Brendon's voice is larger than life and the lyrics always pack a punch. Virtually everything they do continually inspires me to be a better person every day. In fact, I can see myself using "Death Of A Bachelor"'s title track at my wedding.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
