But It's Better If You Do, By Panic! At The Disco

A glimpse into your mind in the dark winter of the global pandemic, with a title inspired by good old Panic! At The Disco.

You wake up and there is no reason not to do.

School is on pause

And holiday decals and holiday emails

Are the only banal things for you to use

To verify that you are, in fact, still here

It was going to be over in April,

In summer,

In January?

Next summer… if we are lucky

And you know we are not lucky

Well, lucky maybe

But not smart as a group

You, if you're responsible,

Have been feeling like the only kid in a group

Doing the work

While the kids around you slack off

Rolling their eyes

And going to the movies

The movies

During a pandemic

Because you may be lucky

but man

what a way to waste your luck

When you could just stream

So because of those

people

You find yourself sitting up

In bed

Once again

(unless you fell asleep on the couch)

Now that days don't count

As much

Or maybe even more

Than they used to

Before someone could do the counting for you

And whisper

"what am I to do"

In the darkened winter hour

Of your rising

Productivity is key

They tell you

And you don't know if that is true

Or if that's just what the product-keepers seek

To tell you

So that you may

Do

But if you don't then what is there to do

Sit and admire the view?

Who

Can afford to do

that

There is no time for leisure

To slowly lose your mind

In peace

Or at the very least

Serenity

Please be advised

That you must lose your mind

In a sublime

Vortex of time

Surrounding you, your work, and no one else

For the foreseeable future.

Kidding.

Maybe.

At any rate,

Save me

Says your sanity, your sleep schedule, your health

Make me

Says your irredeemable need for wealth

It's not your fault I guess

It's just

In jest

I had forgotten where we stood

You and I

In this system

Thought I'd hate to call

You or I

The victim

In the meantime,

though

Why don't you find

Some kind of

Deep distraction

For the new year is upon us

And who would want to welcome it looking like that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
