Packing For College: What People Usually Forget

I decided to help those who are moving to college this fall with a list of things that people usually forget and that you really need in your dorm room.

During my senior year of high school, I started pinning a lot of "what to bring" posts on Pinterest (follow me on Pinterest for a full list of things you need). Some things I bought and I never used and other things I could not live without. So, here is what you shouldn't forget!

1. Step Stool

This is very helpful if you loft your bed. Both me and my roommate used step stools to get onto our lofted beds! I got mine from Bed Bath & Beyond for a decent price.

2. Flip Flops

You always want to make sure you wear flip flops in the shower, especially if you have communal showers. I just used some of my Old Navy flip flops.

3. Chip Clips

This was something that a lot of people forget about, but these really come in handy when you have snacks in your dorm. I got a pack of six at Target!

4. Shower Caddy

My aunt got me a personalized shower caddy from Thirty-One Bags that looked like this but had a yellow K. You will defiantly need one of these!

5. Laundry Hamper

This is something you need so you can carry your laundry from your room to the laundry room in the dorms. My aunt again got me a personalized one from Thirty-One Bags that has a yellow K on it too!

6. Kleenex

I just got some cute packs of Kleenex because you never know when those will come in handy!

7. Mattress Pad

No matter what kind you choose to get, make sure you do get one of these. They make your dorm bed way more comfortable! I got mine from Bed Bath & Beyond!

8. Mattress Protector

You never know what is on your dorm mattress; so many people have slept on it, so I recommend getting a bed bug and allergy protector! Again, I got mine from Bed Bath & Beyond!

9. Umbrella

This is a must. If you don't want to be running through the rain and getting soaked, then get an umbrella and keep it in your back pack. I forgot to grab mine one day and was soaked! I got mine from Walmart.

10. Lint Roller

You never think you need one of these, but trust me, they come in handy, especially if you are in a sorority or any group where you have to wear nice clothes! I bought one from Walmart.

11. Clorox Wipes

You never know if you're going to spill something or if your room might get dirty;
These work wonders! I constantly cleaned my room with these. I got the three-pack from Walmart that was one pack for kitchen, one for bathroom, and one for glass, and then I also got just a big one of the regular ones!

12. Silverware

Whether you decide to buy plastic or not, you will need silverware! I bought some individual cute pieces from Target, so I had two forks, two spoons, and two butter knives.

13. Med Kit

I would recommend you pack a small box of things like:

  1. Band aides
  2. Ibuprofen
  3. Tylenol
  4. Cold and Flu medicine
  5. Benadryl

I hope this helped and good luck this Fall!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
